Devotees being carried on ponies to the shrine of Hindu God 'Shiva' during the annual Amarnath Yatra (Pilgrimage), some 14 Km from Baltal in Indian-administered Kashmir on June 16, 2009,Some 600,000 pilgrims are expected to visit the holy Amarnath Cave this season where a Shiva Lingam, an ice stalagmite shaped as a fallus and symbolising the Hindu God Shiva, stands for worship. The Lingam which forms naturally every year in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, measures 12 feet in height, the Shrine Board authorities said.

Ornate statues of Hindu deities placed before the gigantic icy stalagamite believed to represent Lord Shiva in holy Amarnath cave, 145 kilometers southwest of Srinagar, Friday 16 July 2010. Hindus believe the cave to be an abode of the god Shiva. The annual Amarnath yatra (pilgrimage) will start from 15 July and will continue for 45 days. Authorities expect atleast 2 lac piligrims this year.
